We remember Liverpool forward Diogo Jota who has died aged 28.
Friday’s edition of the Blood Red newsletter pays tribute to Diogo Jota, who tragically died on Thursday.
Diogo Jota: 1996 - 2025
The football world was rocked to its core by the news of Diogo Jota’s death on Thursday.
The 28-year-old was travelling with his brother, Andre Silva, in the Zamora region of Spain when they were both killed in a car crash.
Just a few days ago Diogo married his partner Rute, after winning the Premier League with Liverpool and the Nations League with Portugal.
Our thoughts are with his wife and their three children.

Football comes together to remember a Liverpool hero
After the deaths of Jota and his brother on Thursday morning, the football community came together to pay their respects.
Liverpool FC wrote: “Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.
“The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre.
“Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.
“We will continue to provide them with our full support.”
Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool FC when Jota signed from Wolves five years ago, wrote: “This is a moment where I struggle!
”There must be a bigger purpose! But I can’t see it!
“I’m heartbroken to hear about the passing of Diogo and his brother André.
“Diogo was not only a fantastic player, but also a great friend, a loving and caring husband and father! We will miss you so much!
”All my prayers, thoughts and power to Rute, the kids, the family, the friends and everyone who loved them!
”Rest in peace - Love, J.”
Liverpool team-mate Harvey Elliot penned a touching tribute on Instagram: “Diogo, I can't believe you're gone. It's hard to put into words how much this hurts us.
"You were an incredible footballer... the kind that made a difference every single time you stepped on the field. You were humble, hardworking, kind and always there for anyone that needed anything.
"I feel so lucky to have shared the pitch with you, shared memories and moments I'll carry with me forever. You'll always be part of the Liverpool family.
“We will never, ever forget you. My heart goes out to your whole family. Love you brother. Rest in peace Diogo & Andre. You'll Never Walk Alone."
Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo added: “Doesn't make any sense. Just now we were together in the National Team, just now you were married.
“To your family, to your wife and children, I send my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world.
“I know you will always be with them.
“R.I.P. Diogo and Andre. We will all miss you.”
